SHARE YOUR WORK. JOIN THE FUN.

The Georgetown Steam Plant Science Fair provides a creative platform for students K–12 to share their work with their community. As a celebration grounded in SHTEAM (Science, History, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics), we want to see it all— the questions that keep you curious, the science that blows our minds, the deep dives into history that reveal its impact on today, your grand experiments, data, and discoveries. Bring us your proofs of concept, data visualizations, creative firestorms, optical illusions, gizmos, gadgets, and everything in between.

Students are encouraged to tinker, test, imagine, remix, and invent. Whether you arrive with a lab coat, a sketchbook, a soundboard, or a stack of blueprints, the Science Fair welcomes every kind of creator. Projects can be big or small, serious or whimsical, experimental and artistic—as long as they’re thoughtful, intentional, and imaginative. Let your mind soar. The possibilities are endless.

This year, youth projects will be located in the Ash Room, transforming it into a hub that showcases our next generation of SHTEAM innovators.

Leading up to the Science Fair, we invite you, your friends, and classmates to explore the Steam Plant. Come learn about this "Industrial Cathedral," let your minds wander, and share what inspires you most about this amazing space—and the future that is now in your hands.

To arrange a visit—including scheduling a low-cost school field trip with our skilled docents, paid private tours, or free open houses—please reach out to us at sciencefair@georgetownsteamplant.org. We can make it happen! You're going to love it here.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

⚙️ Start with a question that connects at least two SHTEAM fields —bonus points for the interdisciplinary connection of more SHTEAM (Science. History. Technology. Engineering. Art. Math)

⚙️ Use a process: the Scientific Method, Engineering Design, Creative Inquiry, or a hybrid of all three. We want to see what inspires you.

⚙️ Keep a SHTEAM Logbook with sketches, data, reflections, photos, inspirations, and revisions to share with fairgoers.

⚙️ Create an exhibit that tells a story: Title → Background → Methods → Data → Analysis → Acknowledgments.

⚙️ Captivate Fairgoers—share an artist statement that explains your question, solution, your approach, what you discovered, and where you’d like to take it next.

Students can work independently, in teams, or as families.
